On 2 June 2013, Sunday, I attended the Malayalam fellowship at the Emmanuel Assemblies of God, Upper East Coast Road. The service was led by a dynamic young preacher, Anish Mano Stephen, from Bangalore, who is also a project manager at Oracle.
He shared the sermon on Divine Rest by quoting Hebrews 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
In the Old Testament, sabbath was observed on a particular day but in the New Testament, Rest is experienced.
Matthew 12:1 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn and to eat.
Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Matthew 12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
5 benefits of Divine Rest:
- Needs are met – Jesus cares for small needs in our life. When peter didn’t have money to pay tax, Jesus instructed him to pay off by catching fish.Matthew 17: 27 Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
- Forgiveness of sin
John 5:9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. - Healing in divine rest
Matthew 12:10-13 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him. 11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? 12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. 13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other - Freedom from Satan’s bondage
Luke 13:16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? - Everlasting life
Hebrews 4:1 4 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
After the sermon, he led the people into worship. The Anointing was awesome as he prayed. Praise God for a wonderful time 🙂
