5 Keys to a breakthrough by Pastor Dominic Yeo

On 9th Sep 2012, Geenu and I attended City Harvest Church at Expo Hall 1 for 10 am service. We sat with our cell group – N483. The service started with beautiful praise and thanksgiving followed by Worship. After Praise and Worship, senior pastor Dominic Yeo of Trinity Christian Center and executive member of Assemblies of God, Singapore gave sermon on 5 keys for breakthrough based on Matthew 14. When you look beyond the limitation of a situation and look unto Jesus, you will find the opportunity for your breakthrough.

Feeding the Five Thousand

¹³ When Jesus heard it, He departed from there by boat to a deserted place by Himself. But when the multitudes heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities. ¹⁴ And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. ¹⁵ When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.”

¹⁶ But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

¹⁷ And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.”

¹⁸ He said, “Bring them here to Me.” ¹⁹ Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. ²⁰ So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. ²¹ Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Recognize Presence of God: In the remote place, God’s there. We must recognize, God’s Presence even in deserted place. Where God is, that place will be place of rejuvenation, place of abundance. Disciples failed to see Jesus but saw situation around and that became a remote place. If you feel that there’s a gap between you and God, you may be in that remote place. But even when you are in the remote place, God would love to meet you there; and as long as He is there, He can refresh and restore you,” said Yeo There is a difference between fact and truth. “The fact is that you may not feel God but the truth is that God lives in you!” He reminded the congregation that God is closer to them than they believe

Timing: When we think it’s late, it’s the time for our breakthrough. God is never late, but He is also never early; God is always on time. Yeo explained that if God is early, the one He is helping would either “steal His glory” or “fight him until you mess up His rescue plan.”

God’s breakthrough involves God’s servants – You’re His servant. Saying no is an oxymoron in the sight of God. Try saying no to your commander in the army,” said Yeo to a laughing crowd.

Throughout the history of the Bible, God has always used men and women to fulfill His work on Earth. Yeo established that everyone is designed and destined for breakthroughs; the key then is to align one’s own life to God’s Word and His promises, and to be proactive in answering the call of God.

The disciples had good intention and gave solution to the problem but it was not God’s intention.  There is a difference between good intention and God intention.  God’s breakthrough involves people of God and there are people in marketplace who can be touched only by you.

Only God’s intentions will give us breakthroughs and mold us into people of breakthroughs. You are God’s agent to breakthroughs!

Faith: When you step into arena of your faith, you will received God’s grace. So we must step out in Faith to receive God’s grace.

Using the story of how Peter walked on water, Yeo explained, “All 12 disciples heard Jesus calling them to come to Him, but only Peter stepped out of the boat in faith; and when he did, he experienced the grace of God (to walk on water).”

Yeo taught the crowd to be mindful that faith is not just courage in action but also obedience in action.

You can only give what you have. God doesn’t demand something which we don’t have but start by something which you already have. Using 12 volunteers, Yeo demonstrated how Jesus would have divided the five loaves and two fish to the 12 disciples. The disciples were the ones who gave the people “something to eat” as commanded by Jesus.

“That day the disciples learned that they could only give the people what they have,” Yeo said. “Years later when Peter meet the lame man at the Beautiful Gate, he said ‘Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you.’ You can only give what you have in your hands.” In closing, Yeo challenged the congregation to recognize that each person is God’s instrument of breakthrough; when that recognition is coupled with the conviction of who God is and what He can do, breakthroughs will happen in their lives.

After the service, we left for City Hall to meet my cousin from India. We had lunch from Naalan restaurant and then boarded MRT back home.
